On March 12, 2021 OSHA published the OSHA Direction [DIR 2021-01 (CPL-03)] describing the policies and procedures for implementing a National Emphasis Program (NEP) to ensure that employees in high-hazard industries or work tasks are protected from the hazard of contracting SARS-CoV-2, the cause of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
The National Emphasis Program - Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) targets establishments that have workers with increased potential exposure to this hazard and that puts the largest number of workers at serious risk. It also focuses on ensuring that workers are protected from retaliation.
Offices of Dentists are listed on Table 1 of Appendix A (page 24)D which is the Primary Target Industries for the COVID-19 NEP in Healthcare. Table 2 lists the NAICS codes for other targeted industries other than healthcare. It’s interesting that Table 2 includes Temporary Help Services and states that if a facility is being inspected and using temporary workers it could open up for all hazardous conditions observed in plain view such as temporary employees working in high exposure areas without adequate PPE. Remember that an employer is responsible for the safety of temporary workers while they are on their premises so discuss safety with the agency who will be sending them to you and go over your safety procedures that affect the temporary worker before putting them to work.
