OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) that went into effect on June 21, 2021 states that “Employers must conduct a hazard assessment of their workplace and those with more than 10 employees must develop and implement a written plan for how they will mitigate COVID-19 in accordance with the ETS."
According to OSHA's Emergency Temporary Standard the employer must seek input and involvement of non-managerial employees and their representatives, if any. The employer must assess the hazards as they see them in their facility and prepare a written Hazard Assessment plan to reflect the hazards and the controls that have been put into place to protect their workers.
Another method for assessing hazards is through the use of a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). If your business has a Health and Safety Manual prepared by SafeLink Consulting it contains Safety Procedures and Hazard Reviews. These are similar to a JHA and can be updated to include COVID-19 hazards and controls. If your business is located in Nevada, NV OSHA has directed that employers may have mask policies that are more restrictive than the CDC guidance but need to conduct a job hazard analysis to determine if face coverings need to be worn by vaccinated employees to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
A JHA can be used to document an employer's hazard assessment of the controls they have put into place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. SafeLink Consulting can assist your business in preparing JHAs. You can use a JHA to assess specific tasks if you prefer and use a Hazard Assessment as an overall assessment.
