Driver Safety Training

Driving a vehicle is one of the most dangerous acts we participate in each day. Statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows year after year that transportation-related injuries are the top work-related fatality.

The longer we drive the more comfortable we feel behind the wheel.  This comfort breeds complacency.  Using a cell phone, changing a radio station, speeding, eating, or rolling through a stop sign puts drivers at risk of serious injury and even death.

Employers need to reduce this risk by providing driver workplace safety training specific to these hazards.  OSHA training requirements for drivers can include:

  • Evaluating the risks associated with operating a motor vehicle;
  • Reviewing the common causes of driving accidents;
  • Discussing how to prevent driving accidents;
  • Addressing handling of emergency situations;
  • Understanding transporting of hazardous chemicals; and
  • Observing Infection Control Precautions when they apply.
